The Sacrifice

We always knew this day would come. But somehow we had always hoped we could escape it. Time had finally ran out.

"If I have to die I want it to be at your hands," she whispered caressing his cheek. The stubble biting into her hand.

"I can't !" Titus gripped the blade willing it to disappear. There had to be another way to save them. He couldn't kill the only woman he had come to love after living a solitary life the last five hundred years.

"You must. It is the only way to save your brothers."

The edge of the knife kissed her ivory skin. She closed her eyes. There was no need to see the end coming. She had accepted her fate a long time ago. Her love for his brothers made her sacrifice worth it. She could never give Titus a child but she could give him back the men who were his only family.
