Alyssa frantically looked around her. She hated to admit defeat but
what else was there to do? She had started out on the old Hollow Path, a
well known hiking trail and somehow she'd managed to get herself lost.
She should have reached the end of the trail by now. So where in the
hell was she? Where had the trail disappeared to?
"What are you doing up here?" asked a deep male voice.
Alyssa
froze the moment she heard those deep tones from behind her. Slowly,
she turned around. She breathed a sigh of relief as she took in the park
ranger.
"Oh thank god. I got lost trying to follow the old Hollow Path. Can you help me get back?"
"Why was you hiking the old Hollow Path? No one has used that trail in years."
She
tilted her head looking at him as if he had two heads suddenly. His
brows furrowed when she didn't reply. Now that she had a good chance to
look at him maybe she was wrong after all and he wasn't a ranger. She
took a deep breath trying to calm the ever growing anxiety that now laid
claim to her small four foot five tall frame.
"I asked what you
were doing up this way? It's rude not to answer." He took a step towards
her and she immediately backed up. A feral smile played across his
lips.
"I told you I got lost hiking. I need to get back. Can you help me or not?"
"Depends."
"Depends on what?"
"On what I get out of it?"
A chill swept over her making her tremble. She was losing daylight. If she didn't hurry she wouldn't make it back before dark.
"W...what do you want?"
"I
don't think you could give me what I want." He started to turn away
from her. Dismissing her as if she wasn't there any longer.
She
grabbed hold of his arm before he could get away from her. The last
thing she wanted to do was spend the night in the woods, especially
alone. "Lo..look I'll give you whatever you want as long as you will
take me back."
"Anything I want?"
"Yes, are you deaf? That's what I said. Now, can we please get out of here?"
"Your wish is my command lady." He bowed low before waving her on.
Another shiver chased itself down her body as he looked her up and down.
"I could have done worse," she mumbled not expecting him to really hear her.
He
grabbed hold of her hand in a steel like grip. He pulled her behind him
not giving her a chance to gain her balance along the way. Nearly
tripping she looked up. On the tree was a flyer.
Cannibal at large. Her saviors face plastered to it.
