The Dark Witch
Series:Cousins O'Dwyer
Publisher: Berkley
Pages:369
Rating: 5 Stars
Book Description:With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.
Ireland.
County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations—and where her destiny awaits.
Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives.
When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.
Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…
My Thoughts:
This is the 1st book of hers I have read. I finally broke. I have became enthralled with this series.I love her twist on this and the fact that it is based in Scotland/Ireland appeals to me even more. There is magic and there is a love story connected but it is also about bloodlines and family ties. It is about working towards a common goal to protect all that you love, worked for, and have. It was very easy to relate to Iona. There are twist and turns that you never see coming not only throughout the story but with the characters themselves. Like most series this book has a happily for now ending but you know you must read the other two to find out the conclusion. I look forward to reading book two as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Meet Carrie Ann
"Sure thing."
"What is your full name?"
"Duh! Carrie Ann Rogers." She peeks a look and smile out from under her cap as she readjusts herself in the chair.
"How old are you?"
"10. And you?"
"Im 50."
"God, thats old."
"I'm not quite ancient yet."
"You're getting there though," she giggles.
She reminds me of my granddaughter and her sassy attitude.
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?"
"No. But I would like to have a sister someone I can hang out and play with, but I doubt that will ever happen now." She hangs her head refusing to look in my direction.
"Why Carrie Ann?"
"Cause my Daddy died in a car accident. He got hit by a semi driver." She swipes at her eyes. Obviously his death still hurts. Poor baby.
"I am so sorry Carrie Ann. Are you looking forward to school after summer break?"
"No. I don't want to go to this school."
"Don't you like it here?"
"I like it but I want my old school with my old teachers and friends. I dont know anybody here, except for."
"Except for who Carrie Ann?" I wonder who this secret friend is.
"Nobody."
"So what do you like to do in your spare time?"
"I like to play with my dolls, explore, color, dance and listen to music and watch cartoons."
"Do you have a favorite Disney princess?"
"Elsa from Frozen." Her eyes shine bright at the mention of this.
"What's your favorite color Carrie Ann?"
"Oh that's easy, Pink," she hollers and throws her arms wide.
She starts to fidget in the chair and I know she wants to go play. She has been a delight to interview and I cant wait to get to know this character better.
"Thank you Carrie Ann for telling me and my readers a little bit about you. You can go play."
"Okay, bye."
She's gone in an instant. She couldn't wait to go play.

You Know Not
"You know not of what you speak."
"But it is the only way is it not?" Tears streamed down her face. She would do anything to have him back in her life again. After all that is what her own Prince had done for love.
He regarded her for a moment lost in thought. Should he really tell her? Would she believe him? It mattered not for his soul still burned his flesh with the embers of eternal fire. He had agreed to pay the ultimate price.
"It is, but I fear one such as you could never withstand the trials and live."
"I will if I must," she vowed holding her head high.
He admired her courage and devotion but at the same time he knew all too well how foolish it was. He would not allow the woman his son loved to make the same mistake he had years ago even if he never allowed her to marry his son.
