Tonight she would allow the stone to claim her fully. The end of a thousand years was over and yet still no mate to claim her in sight. She had endured and for what? The prophecy was a lie. Everything she had ever believed in was a lie. There was no more to live for. It was better to die then continue this lonely existence.
Moonlight shone upon the shadows creeping below giving them a life of their own. People scurried about never knowing the true reality of what made up their world. Maybe their lives were better off that way. She was tired, so tired. It would be so easy to drift into eternal sleep if only to be able to forget. Was that even possible?
The coldness started to seep through her skin. Once a beautiful tan master piece of living flesh. A body human females died trying to achieve and men lusted after. Slowly, the muted greys consumed her flesh. She was ready to forget it all.
"No, wait!" The sound of that masculine plea sounded so far away. It was fading... fading...almost to nothing. "I won't let you go that easily!"
Those were the last muffled words she heard before she was nothing more than a stone statue.
