Two Weeks Notice

Dedicated environmental lawyer Lucy Kelson (Sandra Bullock) goes to work for billionaire George Wade (Hugh Grant) as part of a deal to preserve a community center. Indecisive and weak-willed George grows dependent on Lucy's guidance on everything from legal matters to clothing. Exasperated, Lucy gives notice and picks Harvard graduate June Carter (Alicia Witt) as her replacement. As Lucy's time at the firm nears an end, she grows jealous of June and has second thoughts about leaving George.

This movie came out in 2002 and I had never seen it before although I am a Sandra B fan. Hugh Grant isn't too bad he kinda grows on you after awhile.

Brittany and I sat down and watched this together. I am really glad she suggested it. I enjoy the time her and I spend together. It's nice having another woman around the house. I look forward to us watching more together.

What Makes A Good Book

What makes a good book? Or even one great? We all have different loves and likes when it comes to authors and stories. And this is something I have been thinking more and more about especially since my own writing muse seems to be coming back.

So what are the things when you go looking for a book? What is the first things that draw you in?

When I go looking for a book I am open to almost anything. Whatever catches my eye is what I look at. There is a lot of debate that it isn't a cover that draws you in first. For me it is. If the cover doesn't catch my eye I'm not likely to read the title let alone anything else more. If the title interest me I will look deeper. Then comes the blurb. It is hard to come up with a blurb, something so condensed that it gives the reader a taste of the real gem waiting inside the pages.

Every writer has a different voice, way of telling their story. This is one of the reasons why I love reading so much. But what makes a good writer is the fact that they are consistent with the story, the way the characters interact. Yes, the world of paranormal has opened a lot more possibilities to us as both readers and writers. But even then you need to give valid reasons for characters actions, you cant make them wishy washy and so uncertain that they appear insane unless they really are. Common sense also plays a huge role in how your character develops and interacts.

But even insanity has rules, guidelines, and a method to its madness for being there in the story to begin with. The supernatural can be hard to write about, hard to describe in vivid detail. But that is part of the challenge.

I love a book that surprises me. Not all surprises have to be huge but enough for the reader to remember and stick out later after they have put the book down. I like twist and turns in my story, it shows how creative the writers is. It makes a story more promising.

You are told as a writer not to make the reader feel stupid by explaining every detail or action in your story but we know that humans act on common sense, at least most of the time we try to. The same must happen in our stories.

I like a book that can touch me in some way.

I read a lot of erotica romance. Before that I use to read a lot of historical romances. I have been getting into darker romances, more erotic. I have also been enjoying horror and the supernatural. But when it comes to horror and supernatural or even thrillers my level of expectations are much higher. I want an author who can mess with my head, make me scared as I delve deeper into the pages. And if you are going to say that the story is partially true then make it believable. Dont ask me to stretch the realism so far that it becomes a matter stupidity on the readers part.

What are your thoughts? From one reader to another? From an author to a reader? Tell me what grips you and holds you there.

Durotan

Title: Durotan
Author:
Christie Golden

Publisher:Legendary Titan Books
Series: Warcraft
Pages:312
Genre: Fantasy
Rating: 5*****Stars

Book Description:In the world of Draenor, the strong and fiercely independent Frostwolf Clan are faced with increasingly harsh winters and thinning herds. When Gul’dan, a mysterious outsider, arrives in Frostfire Ridge offering word of new hunting lands, Durotan, the Clan’s chieftain, must make an impossible decision: abandon the territory, pride and traditions of his people, or lead them into the unknown.
An original tale of survival, conflict and magic that leads directly into the events of Warcraft, an epic adventure from Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures, based on Blizzard Entertainment’s global phenomenon.
The book is a prequel to the movie Warcraft. I had no idea that there was a book that should have been read before one saw the movie but in actuality I am glad I didn't read it before I saw the movie.

My Thoughts: I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars because it deserves a much higher rating, You all know I am a WOW fan to begin with. I saw the movie and it led me to wanting to know if there was a book that told how Durotan came to be chieftain in the first place. This book gives you an inside look of how Durotan grew up, the traditions values of his clan. The partnership and love between the Frostwolves and the wolves that they rode.
It tells of their relationship with the spirits, and other tribes throughout their world.
This book made me laugh, made me sit on the edge of my seat reading it at times. Bought tears to my eyes when not only clan but beloved wolves died. It is a story of struggle, of love, of spiritual connection to everything that made this clan Orcs. It shows how far each chieftain was willing to go to protect his people. I have to say this book has became my all time favorite read this year.

This is the first Warcraft book I have bought but it is far from the last. Reading this book after I saw the movie I feel enriched my experience of it. The book is always better than the movie. In the movie they are limited what they can tell and show but the book brings it all to life and shows us things we never would have guess.
And now knowing more of Draka's story makes me like this character even more for who she is. The movie truly down played her compared to the book. Draka is Durotan's wife, she is a Frostwolf through and through. If I was ever to be a Orc I would want to be able to be as brave and noble of one as she is.

I cant wait to read more on the world of Warcraft and its many diverse characters that have bought the game playing into being and made it a wonderful world of fantasy to get lost in not only between the pages of its books, but hours in game playing and now on the silver screen.

Binge Watching

Hubby and I stayed up late Friday night and binged watched The Last Kingdom. This season was too short for my liking but we enjoyed it and it was a wonderful way to spend some time together. It's a story basically about how England came to be and the men who played a part in it as well as the women.

The only bad part about watching it like that is now I have to wait until another season comes out, lol. So I guess I will go back to watching season 4 of my Originals. That is getting interesting because of Klaus daughter is old enough to really start playing a role in the show.
